Backstage Walk

Fulton Theatre

A delightful walk awaits you in the shadow of the historic Fulton Theatre (12 N. Prince St.). From the theatre's entrance, walk north on Prince to Grant Street and turn LEFT. Follow Grant to Water Street. Enter Lancaster Galleries (34 N. Water St.), the oldest gallery in the City, and then visit their next door neighbor, Water Street Bindery (28 N. Water St.). Continue north on Water Street to Orange Street. Turn RIGHT onto Orange Street and visit Kalargyros Gallery & Glass Studio (112 W. Orange St.) and Skyler Blu Decorative Arts and Antiques (114 W. Orange St.). Return to the intersection of Orange and Water Streets. Cross Orange and walk up Water Street to the back door entrance to Christiane David Gallery (113 N. Water St.), just beyond the Sunoco station. Farther up the block, you will find Hole in the Wall Puppet Theatre (126 N. Water St.), which also has a puppet museum. Turn LEFT at Chestnut Street, then RIGHT onto Arch Street. Visit Page 4 Art Boutique (240 N. Arch St.) located in a former carriage house. Retrace your steps to Chestnut Street and turn LEFT. Walk one block and turn LEFT onto Water Street. In the middle of the block is the entrance to the well-known Chameleon Club (223 N. Water St.) where you can enjoy live popular music by local and touring bands. Continue on to Walnut Street and turn RIGHT. The Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsman gallery shop is at the next corner (252 N. Prince St.).

Gallery Row Walk

Start at the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen at the intersection of Prince and Walnut Streets (252 N. Prince St.). Walk south halfway down the block and visit Isadore Gallery (228 N. Prince St.). A few steps farther, you will arrive at the Pennsylvania College of Art & Design (204 N. Prince St.) and its three-level Main Gallery. Cross Chestnut, turn RIGHT and take the steps up to Fresco Green Scene (104 W. Chestnut St., 1st fl), Nick Gould Photography (104 W. Chesnut St., 2nd fl rear) and Franz Fox Studios (104 N. Prince St., 2nd fl front). When you're back out on Chestnut, look for the steps to the lower level of the building and Winding Way Books at Gallery Row (106 W. Chestnut St., LL). Continuing south on Prince, enjoy the cluster of galleries in this block - HMB Designs (154 N. Prince St.), Simplicity Art Gallery (150 N. Prince St.), CityFolk (146 N. Prince St.), Mio Studio Gallery (144 N. Prince St.), Freiman Stoltzfus Gallery (142 N. Prince St.),  Liz Hess Gallery (140 N. Prince St.), Red Raven Art Company (138 N. Prince St.), Artisans Gallery (114 N. Prince St.) and Christiane David Gallery (112 N. Prince St.). Cross Orange Street. Follow Prince to The Ware Center at Millersville University  Lancaster (42 N. Prince St.) a visual and performing arts center, and the historic Fulton Theatre (12 N. Prince St.). Cross Prince and take the stairs next to ( or inside ) the Prince Street Café to Julia Swartz Gallery (17 N. Prince St.) on the second floor. End your walk at  Prince Street Café (15 N. Prince St.) or Carmen & David's Creamery (23 N. Prince St.) and enjoy some refreshment while surrounded by local artwork.

Market Square Walk

Central Market

Begin at the Lancaster Quilt & Textile Museum (37 N. Market St.) to view one of the finest collections of authentic late 19th - 20th century Lancaster County Amish quilts, housed in a grand Beaux-Arts bank building. (Open by appointment.)  As you leave the museum, turn RIGHT and stop in David the Goldsmith (45 N. Market St.) Follow Market Street south toward Central Market (23 N. Market St.), named one of the top 10 "great public spaces" by the American Planning Association. Walk through the Hager Building (25 W. King St.), another Beaux Arts structure, to see Chestnut House and New Beginning Gallery. Exit the building at King Street and turn LEFT. Gallery on Market (15 W. Market St.) is filled with hand-painted folk art, wood items and handmade furniture. At Strawberry & Co. (11 W. King St.) you'll find an eclectic mix including original artwork and paper maché figures. Proceed along King to the Heritage Center (5 W. King St.), where you can experience the 1920s Print Shop.. Turn left at Queen Street and walk a half block north to the studios of Jerome Hershey and Gail Gray (both at 34 ½ N. Queen St.), open by appointment. Stop in Cross Keys Coffee & Tea (34 N. Queen St.) for a beverage and view the local artwork.  

Musser Park Walk

Demuth Museum

Start at the Lancaster Marriott at Penn Square (25 S. Queen St.), which is decorated with works by local artists. Walk east on King Street to Exhibit 110 (110 E. King St.) and then on to the Demuth Museum (120 E. King), home of American modernist artist Charles Demuth. Walk through the archway to the museum's entrance in the garden. Leaving the museum, continue east on King to Lime Street. Turn LEFT onto Lime and proceed north to visit the Lancaster Literary Guild (113 N. Lime St.) and then the Lancaster Museum of Art (135 N. Lime St.) in lovely Musser Park. Turn RIGHT (east) on Chestnut Street, cross Shippen Street to Kathleen Abel Studio (309 E. Chestnut St.). Retrace your steps to Chestnut & Lime Streets. Cross Lime and continue west on Chestnut to Allen Miller Arts gallery (117 E. Chestnut St.). Cross Chestnut to visit the studio of photographer Edwin P. Huddle (122 E. Chestnut St.). Follow Chestnut to Duke Street, turn LEFT, and stop in Square One Coffee (145 N. Duke St.) where local artwork adorns the walls. Return to Chestnut Street, turn LEFT (west), and walk two blocks to Gallery Row on Prince Street.

South of King Drive

Kevin Lehman, Kevin Lehman's Pottery

Start at the Lancaster Marriott at Penn Square (25 S. Queen St.), which is filled with works by local artists. Drive south on Duke Street. Turn LEFT onto Chesapeake Street. Then turn RIGHT onto East Strawberry Street. Look for the parking lot entrance for Bethel AME Church, home of Bethel Harambee Historical Services on the left immediately past the cemetery. Take the historic walking tour or see Living the Experience about the underground railroad. Continue on Strawberry Street. Turn RIGHT onto Queen Street. Turn LEFT on Conestoga Street, then LEFT again on Prince Street. Drive south to Hager Street (just past Hazel). Turn RIGHT into the parking lot for Kevin Lehman's Pottery. The former Posey Ironworks, this large facility is home to fifteen artists who work in clay, glass, and metal. When exiting, turn RIGHT onto Prince Street. Then turn RIGHT at Fairview Ave., and take second LEFT onto Hershey Avenue. Continue onto South West End Ave. Turn RIGHT at Prangley Street and continue to Pearl Street. On your left you will see Keystone Art & Culture Center, a gallery, classroom, and working bronze foundry. Turn LEFT to head north on Pearl Street toward 4th Street. Turn RIGHT at Columbia Avenue (PA 462). Continue driving east on Columbia/King St. to return to the downtown center and hotel. 

Uptown District Walk

Antique Row

Uptown Lancaster is full of unique boutiques and restaurants. Begin at Prince Street HideAway (235 N. Prince St.), an ecletic vintage shop. Walk north on Prince and turn right on Walnut Street. Visit Annex 24 Gallery (24 W. Walnut St.), located midway between Prince and Queen Streets, which showcases emerging and established artists. Next door is Hinesite Vintage (24 W. Walnut St.) Turn LEFT onto Queen Street. Enjoy exploring Mommalicious (310 N. Queen St.), My Aunt Debbie (310 N. Queen St.), j. a. sharp Custom Jeweler (322 N. Queen St.), and The Framing Concept (328 N. Queen St.) along with a number of antique shops. When you reach the archway, follow the passage back to BUiLDiNG CHARACTER (342 N. Prince St., rear) where you will find a lively Arts Market and a large selection of architectural salvage items. Around the corner to the right on Market Street is the entrance to Circa Antiques (351 N. Market St.). Return to Queen Street and continue north. Cross Lemon Street to reach the Stahr Performing Arts Center (348 N. Queen St.). Theater of the Seventh Sister presents shows here and hosts a variety of other artistic groups. Turn around and return to the 300 block of North Queen Street. Cross to the other side of Queen and walk to the Keppel building, a former candy factory, now home to D&J Scott Galleries (323 N. Queen St.), The Candy Factory (323 N. Queen St., rear), and many artist studios (329 N. Queen St.). The last stop is Art & Glassworks (319 N. Queen St.), which also has jazz in the courtyard on First Fridays and Music Fridays from May through October. Enjoy refreshments with a French flair at Rachel's Cafe & Creperie (309 N. Queen St.) or The Shoppes at 301 (301 N. Queen St.)

West End District Drive

Lancaster Arts Hotel

Start at the Arts Hotel Gallery in the beautiful historic Lancaster Arts Hotel (300 Harrisburg Ave.). Next, drive along Harrisburg Avenue to Franklin & Marshall College. Turn LEFT on College Avenue, park, and enter the Phillips Museum of Art in the Steinman College Center. Continue driving south on College to Chestnut. Turn LEFT. Park when you reach Pine Street. Explore DogStar Books (529 W. Chestnut St.) and the Chestnut Hill Cafe (532 W. Chestnut St.) both of which exhibit the works of local artists. Continue on Chestnut to Charlotte and turn RIGHT. Turn LEFT on King Street, then LEFT on Mulberry Street. Mulberry Art Studios (19-21 N. Mulberry St.) will be on your right. Park on the street and explore this former bakery full of multiple gallery spaces and home to a variety of dance groups. Cross the street to visit The Mary Hoyer Doll Company (24 N. Mulberry St.), a boutique and museum of collectible dolls that date back to the 1930s. Continue north along Mulberry to your last stop, Barrick Design Candles (541 N. Mulberry) where you will find hand-crafted candles in unique shapes, colors and textures. The Lancaster Arts Hotel is just across the street, at the corner of Harrisburg Avenue and Mulberry Street.
